UP Diliman Month 2016

Panahon ng Luwalhati 2016

(Halaw sa akda ni Pambansang Alagad ng Sining NVM Gonzalez 
na pinamagatang, A Season of Grace)

Taun-taon ipinagdiriwang ng UP Diliman ang sining at kultura bilang bahagi ng selebrasyon ng UP Diliman Month. Para sa taong 2016, ginunita ang sentenaryo ng kapanganakan ng apat na pambansang alagad ng sining na sina Lamberto Avellana (Pelikula), Manuel Conde (Pelikula), Severino Montano (Teatro) at NVM Gonzalez (Panitikan). Layunin ng pagdiriwang na buhaying muli ang gunita ng ating mga Pambansang Alagad ng Sining sa pamamagitan ng mga pagtatanghal, lektura at eksibit na magpapatingkad hindi lamang sa kanilang obra maestra kundi maging sa kanilang buhay bilang mga natatanging manlilikha ng bayan. Pinag-uukulan sila ng mataas na pagpapahalaga ng UP Diliman sapagkat ang kanilang mga obra ay hindi kailanman kukupas sa kanilang pagiging mulat sa mga realidad ng lipunang Pilipino.

Elevate 2016: Utak at Puso: The UP Pep Squad Concert

A dance concert of the UP Varsity Pep Squad, the project aims to present the different dance genres that the UP Pep Squad can do as well as to showcase the talents and creativity of the dancers and drummers of the squad. Based on Henrik Ibsen's Peer GyntAdaptation: Rody VeraDirection: Jose Estrella

Tisoy Brown: Hari ng Wala is Dulaang UP’s third offering for its 40th Theater Season. José Estrella directs the play. Drawing inspiration from Philippine mythology and folklore, Tisoy Brown is a reimagined adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s “Peer Gynt,” a 5-act play in verse and arguably Ibsen’s most widely performed play. Based on and inspired by Norwegian mythology and folk tales, Peer Gynt traverses a series of fantastic adventures: from the land of the trolls and giants to the world of the fools and even to the underworld. In the Filipino adaptation by award winning playwright Rody Vera, Gynt is Tisoy Brown who wrestles the historical with the mystical. Tisoy Brown brings the audience to a journey crisscrossing reality to super-reality and hyper-reality as he struggles with the eternal elusiveness of truth and deception, meaning and purpose. Isang simple ngunit makabuluhang konsyertong katatampukan ng sayaw, poesiya at awitin ng mga kontemporaneong artista at obra maestra na sumisimbolo sa pangunguna ng UP sa pagpapatuloy ng
mayaman at malalim na sining ng bayan. Ang konsyerto ay katatampukan ng The Beki Band ng Sipat Lawin Ensemble, UP Rondalla, UP String Quartet, UP SAMASKOM, Virgilio Almario (Pambansang Alagad ng Sining sa Panitikan), Juan Miguel Severo, PJ Rebullida, JM Cabling, Al Garcia at Jeffrey Hidalgo. Haranafest 2016

Haranafest is an inter-college choral competition for students organized by the UPD Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA) and the University Student Council. The theme of the inaugural Haranefest is “Awit sa Pelikula.” The official contest piece is “Anak Dalita,” theme song of the movie of the same title directed by National Artist for Film Lamberto Avellana. The choice of
songs of the participating college choirs will be drawn from the theme songs of Filipino movies from the 1940s to the present. (Text from Ugnayan February 2016 Issue)

“The Ladies and the Senator” by Severino Montano

A comedy, Montano’s work relates the visit of Senator Anthony Maripal to the United States, where he is feted by the Filipino Women’s Club of Washington DC, unaware that the ladies had planned to can rob him of the money he has stolen from the Filipino people. Tess Jamias directs the play and stars Kat Castillo, Natasha Cabrera, Krystle Valentino and other UPD alumni.

Since it was founded in 1965, UP Press has published works by no less than thirteen authors who have been named National Artists of the Philippines. As the culminating activity of its year-long Golden Anniversary celebration, UP Press in partnership with the College of Arts and Letters UP Diliman would now like to honor the five who are living as well as the eight who have passed on with an exhibit of posters and short video presentations about their life and works at the Gallery 1, Faculty Center on February 1-5, 2016; and a re-launching of their UP Press titles, and an afternoon of special tributes from colleagues and friends entitled “PAGPUPUGAY: A Tribute to the National Artists of the UP Press” on February 5, 2016 at the Claro M. Recto Hall, Bulwagang Rizal.

The thirteen National Artists are: Amado V. Hernandez (Literature, 1973), Leonor Orosa-Goquingco (Dance, 1976), Francisco Arcellana (Literature, 1990), Edith L. Tiempo (Literature, 1999), Nestor Vicente Madali (NVM) Gonzalez (Literature, 1997), Rolando S. Tinio (Theatre, 1997), Jose M. Maceda (Music, 1997), Francisco Sionil Jose (Literature, 2001), Virgilio S. Almario (Literature, 2003), Bienvenido L. Lumbera (Literature, 2006), Lazaro A. Francisco (Literature, 2009), Ramon P. Santos (Music, 2014), and Cirilo F. Bautista (Literature, 2014).

tagumpay, naging alipin siya ng kanyang pagibig sa anak na babae ng kanyang kalaban.
