UP Day of Remembrance

September 21 is declared as the “UP Day of Remembrance” by virtue of Proclamation No. 1, series of 2018, signed by then University of the Philippines President Danilo L. Concepcion on September 17, 2018.

The Day commemorates UP’s continuous resistance to martial law and the preservation of heroic memory and legacy of the UP community. It also highlights the importance of academic freedom, civil liberties, and human rights in Philippine society.

UP Day of Remembrance 2023

We Remember. UP Day of Remembrance 2023 – Noise Barrage

In 2023, the UP President Angelo A. Jimenez, through the UP President’s Committee on Culture and Arts (PCCA), enjoined the UP community to participate in a “noise-making event through symbolic forms of dissent that demonstrate the refusal to be silenced.”

For UP Day of Remembrance 2023, UP Diliman hung banners that read “September 21. We will never forget.” along the University Avenue.


UP Day of Remembrance 2022

Noong 21 Setyembre 2022, ginunita ang ika-50 anibersaryo ng pagsasailalim ng Pilipinas sa Batas Militar ng rehimeng Marcos. Ang pagbabalik-tanaw sa madilim na yugto ng ating kasaysayan ay lubhang kinakailangan sa kasalukuyan dahil na rin sa mga banta sa kalayaan, lalo na sa prinsipyo ng academic freedom.
