A colorful touch was added to the customary Pag-iilaw celebration last Nov. 27, 2015 when the entire UP Diliman community united in recreating a Kapampangan Christmas tradition.
Marking the start of the holiday season, this Pag-iilaw was inspired by Lubenas, a series of processions honoring the Missa de Gallo wherein town patron saint representations are illuminated by candle-lit paper lanterns in cross and star shapes. Toym Imao, an artist and UP College of Architecture alumnus, created the year’s Christmas lights theme “Dingas: Adhikaing Diliman, Adhikaing Bayan.” The Academic Oval and University Avenue were adorned with flame-shaped “torches”.
