UP Diliman’s (UPD) most anticipated Christmas event soared high in keeping with the year’s theme “Pumailanlang.”
Around 2,500 contingents and spectators gathered at the Oblation Plaza and Academic Oval as early as 4 p.m. to take part in and see the parade of vibrant giant floats and dazzling lanterns. At 5:30p.m., the event officially kicked off.
The imaginative lanterns were interpretations of this year’s theme “Pumailanlang,” which translates as “to soar,” implying that, like the fabled Ibong Adarna, one can simply rise above whatever hardships and suffering come their way.
Present in the parade were 45 contingents comprising degree-granting units, administration and support offices, student organizations, religious groups, and workers’ union, and 13 contingents from within the College of Fine Arts (CFA).
A spectacular fireworks display sponsored by the Beta Epsilon Fraternity capped the event.
