A Tribute to the 2018 National Artist Awardees of UP Diliman and Celebration of the 111th founding anniversary of the University of the Philippines

UP Diliman honored fellow Iskolars ng Bayan as newly recognized National Artists namely: Lauro “Larry” Alcala (Visual Arts), Amelia Lapeña Bonifacio (Theater), Raymundo “Ryan” Cayabyab (Music), Eric de Guia also known as “Kidlat Tahimik” (Film) and Resil Mojares (Literature). The program featured presentations of their creations that, in a way, were already vessels to celebrate the excellence of the university.
In addition, the five (5) National Artists also led the year’s honorable mentions. They were joined by retirees, students, REPS, staff and faculty who had also shown honor and excellence in their respective fields.
Linggo ng Parangal 2019 was inspired by “Bulwagan ng Dangal” (roughly translates to “the hall of honor”), a line from UP Naming Mahal with lyrics by Teogenes Velez and music by National Artist for Music Nicanor Abelardo.
