Following the success of the UP Diliman Festival of Culture and the Arts 2018: Kat(h)awan: Bodies, Society, Culture, the university continued the identification of the Philippine body as an important device in knowledge production with the celebration of the very first Science, Technology, and Society Month, UPD STS Month 2018: Bodies, Science, and Philippine Society.
Ruminating on the Philippine body as a scientific concept that is grounded in a socio-historical milieu, the series of activities comprising the UPD STS Month 2018 explored how the Philippine archipelago can be used as an important apparatus for the understanding of inventions and innovations, biological determinism, historical and social memory studies, genetics, nutrition and health.
