STS Month 2018: Bodies, Science, and Philippine Society
Following the success of the UP Diliman Festival of Culture and the Arts 2018: Kat(h)awan: Bodies, Society, Culture, the university continued the identification of the Philippine body as an important device in knowledge production with the celebration of the very first Science, Technology, and Society Month, UPD STS Month 2018: Bodies, Science, and Philippine Society.
UP Commencement Exercises 2018
In the early morning of June 24, 2018, the UP Diliman Amphitheater was filled with a staggering 3,576 undergraduates and 1,042 graduate diploma, masters, and doctoral students for the university’s 107th General Commencement Exercises.
Lantern Parade 2017
UP Diliman celebrated the year-end season with colorful lanterns at the annual Lantern Parade. This year’s theme “UP Diliman, Paaralan, Palaruan” was inspired by Homo Ludens: A Study of the Play Element in Culture, a 1938 book by Dutch historian and philosopher Johan Huizinga, who used the term homo ludens to describe the nature of man and society to create "play," which in turn forms their culture.
University Collections Mapping - Project Launch
The University Collection Mapping (UCM) Project is a follow-up effort to the last inventory of the University of the Philippines’ art collection in 1986, and was envisioned to guide the formulation of policy with regard to the art, furniture, ethnographic, and philately collections of UP Diliman.
Launch of “Pasyal: UP Diliman Art Trail” and “UP Diliman Art Inventory Project”
The simultaneous launch of the “Pasyal: UP Diliman Art Trail” monograph and the “UP Diliman Art Inventory Project” was held last 24 October 2017 at the UP Theater Lobby.
PASP & VACSSP Conferment
The UPD Performing Arts Scholarship Program (PASP) Certificate was awarded to fifty-seven (57) student-artists from seven (7) Official Student Performing Arts Groups. In addition, seventeen (17) student-artists comprised of undergraduates and one (1) master’s received the newly established UPD Visual Arts and Cultural Studies Program (VACSSP) Certificate.
Tinig ng Pakikibaka
In collaboration with the UP Office of the Chancellor, UP Diliman Information Office (UP DIO), UP Asian Center, and the University Theater Complex, the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA), College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, College of Mass Communication, and the Department of History dedicated a month-long celebration to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Aurelio Tolentino and the 45th year since the declaration of Martial Law.
UP Diliman General Commencement 2017
The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) awarded degrees to 4,600 students last June 25, 2017 at the University Amphitheater.
Linggo ng Parangal 2017
Last 2017, UP Diliman celebrated the annual "Linggo ng Parangal" under the theme “Banyuhay,” derived from the phrase ‘new form of life’, or metamorphosis.
Lantern Parade 2016
Last 2016, the UP Lantern Parade carried the theme “Himig ng Diliman, Hagkan ang Gabi” to express that, despite our differences, the call for a better nation will always be sung by the greater populace.
